 Subject: [ANNOUNCE] Tracker 0.6.5

First of all, congrats to the new release.
But I also have a few critical remarks:

Adding new translatable strings a few hours before release is not nice
to our translators. This has happened before and also with 0.6.5 (see
the tracker-applet preferences dialog)

well ubuntu needs to check tracker is ok and is not a hog before keeping
it in for the LTS hardy

I did not want to delay much further

The tracker-applet preferences dialog looks a bit odd (e.g. the
centered close button, no close button in the menu decoration etc.)
Could someone with HIG experience please take a look at it.

patches welcome for this

There is a more fundamental problem with the tracker-applet
preferences dialog though.
As soon as you check the visibility button, the applet is gone. As the
only option to reach the configuration dialog is via the context menu
of the applet, the user will have real difficulties now (he either has
to generate new files to make tracker-applet show up or edit
.config/tracker/tracker-applet.cfg manually. Neither of these options
is acceptable imho).

people who turn it off are unlikely to want it back IMO

perhaps add a hotkey to toggle this?

We had this discussed briefly before, but what happened to the idea to
merge those settings into tracker-preferences?

too much work - it would involve adding dbus methods to tell the applet
stuff has changed. When glib has a decent config system with
notifications then we can do it easily

I also noticed, that the visibility option is reset, each time
trackerd is restarted. bug or feature?

should not be reset

I can roll out a 0.6.6 for translatable strings this weekend + any other
bugs that pop up in the next few days

Cheers,
Michael
