[Tracker] Issues with current trunk

Hi everyone,

instead of filing tons of bugs (we already have more than enough, many
are unanswered), I'll try to write up a (short) list, upon which
issues I stumbled:

        --enable-trackerapplet \
        --disable-unit-tests
system: up-to-date Debian unstable, 32 bit


1.) config file for tracker-applet is
~/.config/trackertracker-applet.cfg (not the missing / )

2.) tracker.cfg: DisabledModules doesn't seem to have any effect. I
tried to add gaim-conversations (when it still failed to load), but
tracker still attempted to load the module.
NOTE: Adding evolution to DisabledModules seems to work though.

3.) tracker-preferences/Email: All entries are greyed out, so I'm
unable to disable evo email indexing.

3b) I found no obvious way how to disable evo email indexing via
tracker.cfg. After some experimenting I found a way, see the NOTE on
2.)

4.) tracker-applet: while indexing, the applet shows the wrong
animation. Instead of the "pulsating" magnifier glass, I always get an
exclamation mark, as if something was wrong.

4b) As a side note: using a greyed out magnifier glas, when tracker is
paused, would imho be less distracting than a exclamation mark.

5.) During initial indexing, the calculation of the remaining time is
completely off, when it comes to indexing evo emails. While indexing
my home folder (files), the remaining time is pretty accurate. but as
soon as tracker starts indexing emails, it shows something like 20
seconds of remaining time (but it actually takes 1 hour or so, I have
quite a few emails).

6.) t-s-t: emails are shown twice under categories, tracker-stats also
lists Emails and EvolutionEmails (with the same number of items)

7.)  t-s-t: no meta-data tile for emails. The error message from t-s-t
on stdout reads like this:
META_TILE_ERROR : Service type can not be found for entity

8.) While indexing evo emails, I get a log of error messages in
tracker-indexer like:
(tracker-indexer:31077): Tracker-CRITICAL **:
tracker_data_metadata_insert: assertion `value != NULL' failed

See also [1], (also note the remaining time issue I noticed under 5.)

9.) tracker never seems to completely finish the initial indexing run
(the real show stopper for me). Each time I log out and log in again
(or restart trackerd), it starts reindexing everything.

10.) problems with deleting files/directories. When I delete
files/directories, tracker-indexer complains that it can't fstat() the
file. The error messages are like this:
02 Dec 2008, 01:30:35: Tracker: Could not guess mimetype, Error
stating file '/home/michael/log/daemon.log.1.gz': No such file or
directory

11.) Deleting files is slow (I think this was already the case for
0.6). Adding files is actually quicker than removing them.


FWIW, I didn't test advanced functionality like tagging etc.

Hopefully this list is useful to anyone. If you need more details on a
certain point, please ask.
