we do currently delay dir scan for 5 secs at startup so as not to slow
boot time
Just curious, did you benchmark that with an average gnome desktop setup? I mean, if you add openoffice's quickstart and tomboy to the login process, it can
easily take 20+ seconds to login (and maybe more than 30 if you add the deskbar-applet).
In that case, I would guess that a 5 seconds delay for trackerd would not be enough. Something like 10-20 seconds of delay
might reduce the risks (of meddling with the login process) further. What do you think?
(disclaimer: I have not done scientific benchmarks on this, just remembering my average login times. I'm also far from being a performance expert)
