[Tracker] tracker + gthumb

Hi everyone,

gthumb currently stores some metadata in per-directory xml files (comments, locations, keywords, etc). It also stores databases ("catalogs") of images and of tags ("categories"). The image/tag databases do not update themselves gracefully (say, if a file moves).

Anyway, it's all kind of crufty, and I'm thinking that the metadata should be stored in XMP fields in the image (no more xml files), as should the catalog names and categories. And tracker could be used to generate lists of members on the fly, rather than relying on some internal database. (But what about read-only files?)

Anyway, if tracker gurus see obvious upsides / downsides to this approach and have suggestions, your input would be appreciated at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502302...
