Are you sure you're not trying to view properties of a file that's not
watched by Tracker?

If it should be, then is there an error message when you do this:

# mkdir /tmp/plugtmp
# TMPDIR=/tmp/plugtmp nautilus --no-desktop

This will start a new instance of nautilus and all it's error mesages
will be printed the the terminal.
