not sure how to check its working on Edgy though? (how can I tell what
io priority a preocess is set as?)
Yup, it's the ionice command. It works like that:
ionice -p $(pgrep trackerd)
In debian, this is part of the schedutils package.
thanks ionice now reports trackerd running at level 7 best effort :)
