I already said I do not know if it is really useful. I copy file *-kde.desktop from Beagle. On my computer, some menus of GNOME does not work anymore from some weeks so I cannot test. :-/ Currently, I am asking for help from some debian/gnome people on IRC... To test if we only need one .desktop file, you just need to log on GNOME, then on KDE and then on XFCE4 to see if trackerd starts automatically each time and if there is not any duplicate entry in menus. About the patch, I dislike to see Makefile.in files patched. In my opinion, these files are generated by ./autogen (automake to be more precise) and they should stay generated... Laurent.
