Re: [Tracker] admin and project expansion questions

I like consolidation. Here's a list of all the tracker related
resources that I could find so we can decide what to keep, what needs
to be updated, and what to get rid of.

== Webpages ==
Gnome Wiki page: http://live.gnome.org/ResearchAndDevelopment/Tracker
- Info page written by Jamie on October 23
- Mostly up to date, but page is lacking context. (download link, why
does this page exist, etc)

Gnome hosted Tracker Webpage: http://www.gnome.org/~jamiemcc/tracker/
- Basic webpage (designed by me, but desperately needs more work)
- Out of date. Needs to be updated
- I would suggest this as the location for the offcial website, but
the perception of a Gnome only program could be a problem

Freedesktop.org wiki page: http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/Tracker
- basic wiki page
- needs updating

Launchpad info page: https://launchpad.net/products/tracker
- contains basic information

Ubuntu wiki page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Tracker
- page explaining why tracker should be included in gnome/ubuntu?

Ubuntu Community Doc's page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MetaTracker
- how-to for dapper and 0.0.5
- needs some cleanup & updating for edgy users

== Revision Control Systems ==
CVS: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/tracker/
- This is where development happens

Bzr: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/tracker/trunk
- Bzr mirror of CVS

== IRC ==
#tracker on irc.freenode.net
- is this created for tracker, or is it existing and underutilitized?

#tracker on GimpNet
- was this channel created for tracker?

== Mailing lists ==
http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/tracker-list
- the mailing list

== Future Ideas? ===
This don't exist yet, and possibly should:
Wikipedia Page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracker_%28disambiguation%29
- A wikipedia page should be created to help promote/educate people
about tracker

Wow, I'm actually suprised that all of that exists. And thats without
looking at any other distros. Are there any gentoo/fedora/suse tracker
users out there who could get more info on what exists? Are there any
how-to's/wiki pages out there for those distributions?

My idea is for us/Jamie to decide which of each of these is the
"Official" one and then we all head out and edit the rest to make sure
they compliment the new official ones. (i.e. point the launchpad
homepage link to the official home page)

If it is ok, we can also register the domain www.tracker-project.org
and point it to the official home page.

Sound good?

I really agree we need to get this sorted out fast without too much
delaying, no sense in taking possible hacking time away from the
developers.

Seems like its best to keep the dev. tree in one place...but launchpad
is cool because you can host elsewhere diff. infrastructure and it will
show up there...

I think better to get this infrastructure stuff out of the way as fast
as possible to focus on hacking on tracker. I don't like this to seem
like a distraction, my call for this consolidation, but I would like to
help get this progressed and out of the way so developers can join on
easier and the code gets better fastter...and so we can avoid building a
bikeshed... ;)
