Hello Tracker list.

We are moving onto mysql 5 where the mysql client package should contain
libmysqld.a

Are you sure about this? I've been googling to find out about this but
can't find anything, and neither the 5.0.20 nor 5.1.7 client package
on FreeBSD installs libmysqld. Is it still in the future?

mysql themselves are distributing it in their precompiled packages.

Okay I see. I also found this on the MySQL Embedded Forum:

http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?58,65595,65839#msg-65839

"The embedded version of the server for the 5 series release will be
included in 5.1."

Ubuntu/Dapper has it and so should fedora (have not checked)

Okay.

I guess it might be worth asking Gentoo/portage to include it?

Ah. I'm on FreeBSD, I just mentioned Gentoo because that's where I
usually look when I want to compare how things are packaged in FreeBSD
with how they're packaged in Linux distributions.

I will bug the FreeBSD port maintainers to set up the 5.1 package in
FreeBSD ports so that it installs the embedded library, once it is
stable enough.
