Hmmm, as far as I can tell, the hability to run such scripts is a debian
only feature, and including them at the g-s-t backends level wouldn't
help a lot for other distros, as it would be a g-s-t only feature (no
integration at all with distros != debian)

The switch from running ifup/ifdown to running ifconfig manually was
forced by some instant-apply restrictions in the network tool, I'd
really hope to see the backends be able to switch again to ifup/ifdown
with the ongoing 2.0 concept/architecture.

However, It would be very great to see such patches for debian systems
in the mean time :)
