[Setup-tool-hackers] GST future path

Hi all, two random thoughts about GST and future directions:
1. What about Mandrake Linux? in the past support for this distro has
lagged behind. Moreover, all the Mandrake Linux config tools, AFAIK, are
programmed in Perl, like the GST backends: have you ever considered the
idea of joining forces with Mandrake hackers? Many tools of the drak-
family are quite good, a cooperation would be beneficial to both and
would make the day in which there is a standard config center for Linux
a little closer.
2. If I got it right, at the present moment the GST have to understand
which distro they're currently installed on and make some changes in
order to work properly. I think this is the wrong approach and things
should go the other way round: GST should work out of the box on LSB
compliant distros, it should be up to them avoiding weird configuration
setups. If this isn't yet possible, make the LSB stricter than it is,
and ask for compliance. Again, the idea is to accelerate the progress
for homogeneity among the different Linux versions.
Disclaimer: I am a simple user and Mandrake Linux doc writer/translator,
surely not a hacker (I can barely program my VCR, but usually let my
wife do that :), who's played with XST in the past, liked the idea
(backend/frontend, common/customisable config suite for all Linux
distros) and is eventually waiting for a Mandrake-working beta to help
with beta testing.
Ciao
