In any case, sounds good to me as long as we use the "local variable ewxtension".

I agree with following the Nautilus standard...but that document is not
 the working Nautilus style guide.  I know this because it does not
 include the revision to the local variable declaration rule.

Are you sure that change has ever been decided ? Jeff in that thread
points out that it would not work on gcc < 3.
The document I linked is in nautilus cvs head, not sure where to search
for a more updated one.
