Hey Jeff,

A dozen developers is probably one of the best contributions you can make for the event really. This is what really makes GUADEC tick so forward our thanks to Todd on that commitment alone.

I think we should start with the budget that you have available and we can look at the options we could put together from there?

Hola muchachos,

Apologies for the painfully long time it took to get back to you with a budget/proposal. I've been herding cats to precisely plan attendance for all the events this summer, trying to make it fit into our (pretty much nonexistent) travel budget. Now that I finally have accurate cost estimates (the answer is, "It's a pretty big amount!"), I can focus on the sponsorship question.

I've had hours of discussions with our chief financial officer over the past 1-2 weeks, and he's begging me to not spend a dollar more than what we're already spending by having team members attend, because our finances are ridiculously tight at the moment.

So normally I should be spending $0 on sponsorships, only focusing on sending people to participate to the event.

Still, I'd like to give a small token of official support, maybe by sponsoring 500 USD if it's still useful to pay for the barbecue (if you still plan to make one) or cervesa? I don't plan for us to have a booth this year after all (we don't have new hardware to show in the conference's timeframe anyway), so I'm thinking I could maybe just leave a couple of brochures* at the registration desk for interested folks if you don't mind. And I'm saying $500 as an arbitrary number, but if you tell me it actually costs 700 for example, then that could be the amount.

I realize this is not terribly exciting when it comes to sponsorship, but that's pretty much all I can do for now... it's hard for me to justify additional spending in our current situation.

Let me know you'd like to proceed!

Thanks,
Jeff

*: also, I totally plan to dump all my remaining FY2014 and FY2015 GNOME Annual Reports onto that registration table for people to hopefully take home as vintage souvenirs...

Hola,
I'm in the plane to Almeria right now, I guess we'll discuss this over lunch ;)
