Hi,
Given the the vast majority of Lay users when they right click on a
file and see "Encrypt..." are likely expecting symmetric pgp
encryption. and infact may not have any pgp keys in their keyring are
likely to be confused when the UI pops up and they seem unable to do
anything.
Users are likely to be familiar with encrypting a file with a password
from previous experience, on Windows etc. And while often it's more
sensible to use asymmetric encryption, there are times where symmetric
can be superior, for example when out and about carrying sensitive
information on a thumb drive you don't want to be also carrying your
private key.
Which is why I hope to bring attention back to this 5 year old feature
request: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=325803
If I had any programming ability I'd try and tackle it myself.
Thanks,
Michael
