Open the preference dialog, click the "Add Keyring" button, enter
"test" into the entry, click "Add". Then I get the mentioned "Access
denied" dialog.

As it turns out, for some reason the session wrapper was not turned
on, causing the daemon to fail to bring up the password dialog. After
fixing that, creating keyrings works.

You can still get the same (slightly misleading) "Access Denied"
dialog by cancelling the password dialog for the new keyring.
