According to ICCCM Section 6.3 "window managers should ensure that
they provide some mechanism for their clients to receive events from
all keys and all buttons".  Inspired by C-q in Emacs, the function
quote-event was written to provide such a mechanism (although the
version currently distributed fails to support mouse buttons).
However, it is clumsy if you have to use it a lot.  A toggle to
disable wm bindings might be better in that case.  Personally I just
try to avoid wm bindings that overlap with oft used application
