sawfish crashed on load with gnome 2.5

I've had this problem with sawfish for quite a while, and I really miss
it... Metacity is wimpy in comparison... IMHO

When I kill metacity and load sawfish i get the following... 
tonhe hiku:~$ killall metacity;sawfish &
[1] 28457
tonhe hiku:~$ Bad argument: #<closure make-lut>, , 3

This has been the same issue on multiple versions of gnome for me.
My system is mainly slackware 9.1 w/XFree86 Version 4.3.0, and the
newest build of garnome.
