Don't know on Mac, but with a sane default a tip should appear when you 
move your mouse over a button with a terse description of the button 
action. If not tip appears, you can enable it yourself in the sawfish 
configurator, under the "Miscellaneous" tab, or better yet, you can 
override the beahaviour of the button with the "Bindings" tab.
