Tooltips Font

Hello

  I would expect something similar to the following to se the tooltips
font, but I've had no luck thus far:

(custom-set-typed-variable (quote tooltips-font)
                           (quote ("xft" .  "Verdana-9")) 
                           (quote font))

Any hints on how to set the tooltips font?
