Wrong aspect ratio on Sony BDP-S470

With Rygel 0.17.7, the Sony BDP-S470 plays 16:9 videos in what seems to be anamorphic format (2.40:1). The 16:9 video should fit the 16:9 TV perfectly (the player interface does, so it's not a TV setting) but when playing from Rygel the video is crunched vertically with excessive black on the top and bottom.

Interestingly, 4:3 videos are displayed scrunched horizontally in 1:1 format with excessive black on the right and left of the videos.

Disabling transcoding doesn't work: The player just displays "There is no playable file." on the video folder.

I filed this as a bug, #692824. Anybody have any ideas on what could be wrong?
