For some reason my mail client doesn't show your message so I had to go to archives to read it. Anyway, you want to install gst-plugins-base & gst-plugins-good (its gstreamer0.10-plugins-base & gstreamer0.10-plugins-good on debian/ubuntu IIRC).
Since these are run-time-only dependencies, configure doesn't check for them. We do need to document them in README/wiki & there is already a bug for that, hopefully i'll fix this tonight.
