As always, I found the answer to my problem 3 minutes
after posting the query. 

In Ubuntu 8.04, there is a default list of radio
stations in:
/usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/iradio/iradio-initial.pls

I was able to load the playlist into Rhythmbox and all
seems to be well. No idea what caused it to dump the
list in the first place, but at least they're back.
