I suspect that this is this bug:

http://bugs.gnome.org/378155

apparently caused by the audible.com webserver probably not
implementing HEAD requests properly.  There's a gnome-vfs issue as
well: http://bugs.gnome.org/330498 but that seems to have been fixed
in gnome-vfs 2.13.x.
