Hello! I wanted to mention, that there is big probem with non-latin langages in ID3 tags (Russian, for example). The problem is that MP3's on most sites contain information M$-encoded. For russian the code page is win1251. But most UNIX desktops use KOI8-R of UTF-8 for russian text. So, instead of getting normal text in music browser window, I see just a glyph mess :) This reduces usability a lot, as most users listen to national music, which is ID3-tagged in M$ national encoding. The solution is to add an option to convert ID3 tags strings from given encoding (for me this will be win1251) to what current locale is set (for me - koi8-r) for display. This could be a checkbox (to enable), and listbox or text-entry (to choose encoding) in preferences window. I'm trying to make patch for this issue, but digging in your code is pretty difficult without docs. Can you suggest me some reading about how rhythmbox is designed internally? P.S. Please, don't tell me, that I should set my locale to ru_RU.WIN1251, nobody will do such a thing only because of music player :) -- regards, Sergey Akifyev <asa@gascom.ru> JSC Gascom <http://www.gascom.ru> PGP key available from: ftp://ftp.gascom.ru/pub/PGP-keys/asa.txt
