Well, let's set aside the CD changes for a second.  Could you take a
look at the netrb monkey-media-player-gst.c and see how willing you
would be to use that?

It constructs two very different pipelines depending on whether or not
we're using iradio or not.  I found no other way to make gst work
semi-reliably.  I've submitted a bug about this though (#112143), and
it's marked as a milestone for 0.6.2, so there is hope.

If you're willing to merge the player-gst.c changes, then we can start
on the other changes.
