Hi,
gnome-chess 3.11.92 does not build on *BSD. [1] The fix involves moving
one conditionally-compiled function call from Vala into C. I think this
is pretty safe, but since it adds three new files (a .c, a .h, and
a .vapi), I do not consider it trivial.
Would be nice to have this fixed in 3.12. I'm also fine with fixing this
in 3.12.1 instead: it would just be a courtesy to our BSD friends to do
so now. I've tested on Linux to make sure the Linux-specific
functionality has not regressed. The build has been tested on FreeBSD.
Obviously documentation/localization is not affected.

As you mention, the main doubt is about non-trivial nature of the
patch. I'm more biased to have this for 3.12.1, but I would not object
too much if any other from the release team votes for 3.12.0
I agree; lets defer this to 3.12.1; there's an easy workaround after
all. I may mention it as a known issue in the release announcement
