Hi,
I have been working on a new gnome-settings-daemon plugin that would
automatically update the system timezone based on geolocation. This is a
missing feature from System Settings Date and Time panel redesign that
landed in 3.10:
https://live.gnome.org/Design/SystemSettings/DateAndTime
The work in progress is tracked at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706979
This is a freeze break request for landing the new g-s-d code (automatic
timezone updates are disabled by default for now) and a new schema for
gsettings-desktop-schemas.
I'll be working on this and if everything goes well, I'll send another
freeze break before 3.9.91 for landing gnome-control-center UI changes
and enabling timezone updates by default. In case of complications,
this can stay disabled by default for 3.10 and activatable only through
gsettings.
Hey Kalev, this is a lot of new code. I've added some questions in the
bug. Since this is just a separate gsd plugin, the risk is fairly low,
so I would be inclined to say yes, but lets hear what other people
think
