freeze breaks in gtk

Hey, we haven't traditionally respected freeze breaks for gtk, but I
have been trying to stick to serious issues.
Here is the non-trivial stuff that has been committed since Monday:

And here is one more patch that I am going to land today, since it
fixes a serious regression in multi-monitor scenarios:

(comboboxes, menus, etc.) do not show up on primary display

These are the only changes that I am considering for 3.4.0 at this point.
