GDM status for 2.22

Hi,

Here is a brief update on the state of GDM.

Even though we are late in the release cycle and many freeze dates
have already passed, we are still actively working on fixing the major
regressions so that the new GDM will be ready for a 2.22 release.
All of the members of the GDM team (me, Ray Strode, and Brian Cameron)
are now working full time toward this goal.

The team met the other day and decided that we would defer any
decisions regarding readiness for 2.22 until after the middle of next
week.  We'll meet again at that time to assess our progress.  The

We hope that the release-team can be a little bit flexible in this
case and also wait until after the middle of next week to make any
decisions regarding readiness for 2.22.

The fallback plan is simply to ship another GDM from the 2.20 stable branch.
