Planner-list building for windows with db support

Hi there, I'm looking for a project planning desktop client for a multi-user enterprise environment (meaning Windows). First, is anyone using Planner (on any OS) with a back-end database in a multi-user environment? If so, how is it working for you? 

Second, can anyone comment on building Planner for Windows with database support? Is the database support unique to PostgreSQL? Could MariaDB be made to work without too much effort?
