Hello all,

Hi!

I would like to know what is the state of the project right now? and
how could I help you? maybe doing some research, etc.

I think the correct adjective currently is dormant. There is a lot to
do to bring the project back to a good shape and some of it is quite
difficult to do. The main blocker is that Planner relies on
libgnomecanvas to draw its Gantt chart. It has been deprecated for a
while and there’s no drop in replacement so we have to figure out a
way forward. This blocks port to GTK+3 (and eventually 4).

If you do have time for research, maybe you could investigate writing
a custom set of widgets to draw Gantt charts. That means that for
instance each rectangle that represents a task would be a widget.
Would you be interested in prototyping this? For now you could use any
language, but long term the optimal solution would use C so that we
can then use those widgets from other languages.

I found that the code has errors in compilation process and Autotools
scripts could be refactorized. Is it worth if I send you some patches
for revision? I've never been in a open source project and I don't have
the needed experience, but I want you to teach me and improve my
programmer skills while contributing to this amazing project.

Sure, you can send us patches for review (on bugzilla preferrably). If
I’m being completely honest with you, the project may not be the best
for a newcomer given the state I talked about above, but if you want
to contribute despite this you’re more than welcome!

Maybe the language is a wall for me to communicate to you my thoughts,
since English is not my mother lang and I'm a self-thought person, even
for programming. But I hope with your guidance I'll improve even my
English skills.

Heh, don’t worry about it, your English is fine! Most of us aren’t
native English speakers as well, we’re all learning here.

Cheers,
