Re: [orca-list] Announcement: this mailing list will be retired by the end of Oct 2022

Will,

I believe you misread, the new platform is called Discourse and not Discord, the same features Mailman had can be found in Discourse as well but you get all the web ui and associated features on top. With little to no customization on categories/tags you want to follow you can then treat Discourse as a plain mailing list. There's no need to leave or look for another place to host the orca-list mailing list, although I won't force you to stay around but I'd appreciate if you could at least give Discourse a try.

Thanks!

Discord has extensive accessibility problems. Discord is heavy handed and arbitrary in removing accounts.  Discord doesn't have a publicly searchable archive, which the mailing list does, and the mailing list needs so that we can have a stored memory of solutions. Discord is proprietary, non-free software.

Discord is a terrible solution for the orca mailing list.

So yes, let's find something that would actually meet the needs of orca users.
