[orca-list] Gpodder seemingly freezing

When I have finished listening to an episode in a podcast in Gpodder, it seems to freeze when I close VLC 
Media player, either that or it is slow and it hangs.
Orca is still running but because the system is seemingly busy, I can do nothing with it.
I have to force a closure by holding the laptop power button.
How can I resolve this because I am having to force shutdown of my laptop before I can delete a podcast 
Episode.
I am running Solus.
I don’t think sudo reboot works and even if it does, because I don’t get speech in a text terminal, without 
speech I cannot be sure if I am getting commands right.
