Re: [orca-list] Should Orca do a say all for all new, non-focused alerts?

I agree with:

"Alert. Allow mozilla.github.io to use your microphone? Press shift-f6 to focus."

FWIW, my vote would be no it shouldn't. Based on the example you just gave, I'd assume a button has focus when it doesn't. If anything, I feel like Firefox should make it more obvious how to reach these alerts, rather than them being stuffed with useless and potentially misleading information. I.e. I'm using Brave now, and when a download starts I'm told to use Shift-F6 to focus the downloads bar.

I recognize this isn't an Orca issue, but I think

"Alert. Allow mozilla.github.io to use your microphone? Press shift-f6 to focus." is much more sensible than "Alert. Allow mozilla.github.io to use your microphone? Now listen to me ramble off a bunch of unfocused controls without even telling you how to reach them." :) That's where they should add verbiage if they want to be more helpful.

Hey all.

As part of some discussion of a Firefox bug, it was suggested that it's
problematic that Orca doesn't read the entire contents of a new, non-
focused alert.

For instance, consider the pop-up for microphone permissions. Right now
Orca (master) says "Alert. Allow mozilla.github.io to use your
microphone?"

Would you prefer Orca to say instead "Alert. Allow mozilla.github.io to
use your microphone? Microphone combo box. Monitor of Built-in Audio
Analog Stereo. 1 of 2. Remember this decision checkbox not checked.
Block push button. Allow push button."

Keep in mind that focus remains in the web page when this thing pops up
and if you actually want to interact with it, you need to use F6 to get
to it.

I'm happy to make the change if everyone thinks it's a good idea.

Thanks in advance for your input!
