I always get this error when I sign in. Orca doesn’t seem to work on the signin screen, nor does it start after signing in. Using Ubuntu 21.04. From: orca-list <orca-list-bounces gnome org> On Behalf Of K0LNY Hi Again, I realized what went wrong. Typically when I install Linux, the first thing I do is do apt update and then apt upgrade, before installing anything. I forgot to do this this time, so I did it after having no luck with Voxin, and then installed voxin 3.3rc4 again, and restarted, and then found Voxin in the synth list. BTW, it was always listed as IBM, and not Voxin. But it works now. But the insert + space does not work on the mate desktop for calling up Orca preferences, it did originally on this install. It also worked in the login window, but once it booted to the desktop, I still had to run orca -s for the settings. Not a big deal for me now, because I don't typically change those once I got things how I like them. I always turn off modifier keys and navigation keys, and I raise the speed to 70, and lower the pitch to 40. Also, I keep getting a Ubuntu error on boot up in the desktop, and I enter on send error report, and I don't know if that helps or not. Maybe that error has something to do with the Orca troubles I had. Is there a way to scan system files, like Windows SFC? Thanks. Glenn ----- Original Message ----- From: K0LNY Sent: Thursday, June 17, 2021 2:18 PM Subject: Voxin Not Working Hi, I just installed Ubuntu Mate (ubuntu-mate-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64) into VmWare. Orca is working, but I tried to install the latest Voxin (IBM) which is voxin-enu-3.3rc4.x86_64. and it seemed to install okay, but I didn't hear the IBM speak a little during the install, like it usually does. So after a reboot, I tried voxin 3.1 and same. Then I tried Voxin 2.2 with still no IBM voice. Strangely, now insert + space does not launch Orca settings, it opens whatever I am focused on at the time. So I ran orca -s and got the Orca settings, but IBM was not in the list of synthesizers. Anybody got a clue on this one? Thanks. Glenn |
