Re: [orca-list] OT: Anybody know what happened to speakup?

Hello John,

The speakup project is indeed alive and well, and thr speakup list was down but
is back on line.

Indeed the speakup kernel driver are still there, but it depends on the
distribution to provide the drivers built-in or as modules or not at all.

If Ubuntu 2.04/Hirsute doesn't have kernel modules this issue issue should be
brought to Ubuntu, but are you sure they are not built-in?

Here (on Slint64-14.2) I type to check:
zgrep SPEAKUP /proc/config.gz

And the output is:
CONFIG_SPEAKUP=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_ACNTSA=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_APOLLO=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_AUDPTR=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_BNS=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DECTLK=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DECEXT=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_LTLK=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_SOFT=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_SPKOUT=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_TXPRT=m
CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DUMMY=m

Cheers,
Didier

Anybody know what happened to the speakup project? I installed Ubuntu 21.04/Hirsute and it has no speakup kernel modules. I think it got moved into the main kernel source code branch lately but there should still be kernel modules, right? TI wanted to ask about that on the speakup mailing list but the list seems to be gone.
