Are you sure that, when you build Orca, it's finding the liblouis header files under /usr/include? If it
doesn't, I'm not sure whether it will continue to compile without the contraction table support, or fail
during the "configure" step.

Yes, I should have said that running the distribution orca
(/usr/bin/orca -r -s) shows me a list of possible contraction tables.
