The fact I didn't find such a tag file I consider an intelligent move too. Hackers have and do deface web pages however providing integrity verification information in an e-mail message or two makes it more difficult for hackers to deface since they'll need to find that original e-mail message in order to do any damage and deface that message on all existing servers.
