It's indeed Lightdm but the new front-end is no longer gtk-greeter but
arctica-greeter on Ubuntu Mate 18.04. For Ubuntu 18.04 (so GNOME) it's
GDM that it is used.
I've never experienced both of them. I'm still on gtk-greeter.
