Howdy, The problem seems to be that orca isn't really using the default settings for the default module. It's passing in a 2 letter language code instead of using the default speech-dispatcher language. When I set the default language to en-us it should be using us1 as the default voice, It instead used the default espeak-ng voice which was a fallback if it couldn't find the voice. To make sure my theory was correct, I installed mbrola-voices-en1 and it started using the english (GB) voice. So, if orca could be made to not pass in language requests to the default module, then it would just work by setting the language in spd. Eventually I want to get all the possible mbrola languages working. I'm sure Joanie is swamped with orca development stuff and other requests, so I may try to take a look at this myself and do a pull request. I'm not a python ninja like she is though though, so don't expect a miracle or anything, but maybe this is something I can tackle. It's nothing complicated like messing around with variants at least.
