Netflix' HTML 5 video now apparently works in Firefox under Linux,
provided you've checked the box under Preferences, Content to allow DRM
playback. I've done so, confirmed that Widevine is downloaded and set to
Always Activate, but Netflix still prompts me to install Silverlight.
In reading up on this, some folks describe a step where visiting Netflix
prompts you to download something in order to play content. I'm
wondering if this might be happening, but the interface to do so isn't
exposed accessibly?
I found this site:
https://demo.castlabs.com/
which apparently has demos of DRM content. The initial video is
unencrypted, so you'll need to click on one of the DRM videos with the
previously-mentioned box checked. When I do this, nothing happens after
pressing Play.
If there is in fact not an inaccessible popup appearing, then I'll debug
down different avenues. But I'm not finding a whole lot of folks
complaining that this isn't working, and the demo site removes Netflix
from the equation entirely, so...
Thanks.
