Gnome-builder is also really awsome and accesdible in most parts also if keyboard nav between pannels is not 
always possible and needs to be improved. 

I use vim and gedit for most of my development.

Yeah then Emacs is probably a good choice. Have a look to the "tags"
feature which allows you to navigate code, jump to funtcion definitions,
etc. If there is one specific feature from Visual Studio you would like
to have in another environment, it will be helpful if you can let us
know which feature so we can see whether there is an equivalent out of
Visual Studio.
