I did not intend to send until I'd checked the bookshare site.
On the page you mentioned first,
http://www.bookshare.org
I had no problems using latest firefox on arch-linux us in my custom fluxbox based graphical environment.
I think I remember another issue on the bookshare site sometime ago that Joanie fixed, but it ws not this
one.
So, back to the original plan of reporting if this happens to me again.
Oh, I'm using a very recent, but quite likely not latest orca master, will compare with latest 3.20 build if
need be when, or if a patern develops, but
as the bookshare site is not acting up for me it looks like the issue may be different.
I am also not sure if there are cases where the first character istreated corectly, entered in the field and
then things switch to browse sometimes, or
if focus mode is not entered sometimes at all.

Does this happen 100% of the time on sites where it happens, most of the time?
Are there pages where this is irratic, happening sometimes and not others?
I ask because I am curious in general, but also because this happens with firefox on some pages as well,
but I am not sure about how consistent the
behavior is.
There are certainly sites where to get focus mode I must use shift tab to get in to the edit field, i.e.
tab will not switch modes automatically, ever I
think.
I am not sure if these issues are related or not, but I will start checking and report if I find any
patterns.

hi all
This has been going on for a while, but I've just now found an easy way
to reproduce this. The issue is that when orca enters a text field
automatically when navigating to it in seamonkey, after the first
character is entered, orca will not announce the second one entered and
will then switch over to browse mode. However, orca doesn't announce
this so you still think you're in focus mode, and you'll get bounced
around the page as orca treats your text as structural nav commands.
Steps to reproduce. Go to http://www.bookshare.org. Type in a query in
the search field. You will get two characters in and then will have to
press orca+a to get back into focus mode to finish the search. Note that
this is not limited to bookshare. Most, but not all, form fields will do
this. Examples include baard (braille and audio reading download)
website, bookshare, and wikipedia. Google, for some reason, doesn't.
That is a very weird search field. Orca says it's a combo box, but it
seems to be a strange combination of a combo box and a text field. This
happens with both orca master and stable. Can anyone else confirm this
strange issue in seamonkey? I know storm reported this a few weeks ago
but got no response. This seems to be limited to seamonkey, firefox
doesn't suffer from this issue.
Thanks
Kendell Clark
