[orca-list] current master can't open the preferences dialog if espeak varients are turned on in speech-dispatcher

hi all
Subject line says most of it. In the current orca master as of five
minutes ago, pressing orca+space to open up the preferences dialog while
varients are enabled in /etc/speech-dispatcher/modules/espeak.conf will
freeze orca. As near as I can discover, orca doesn't actually freeze,
but the preferences dialog never opens and all speech stops. Running
orca in the terminal produces no tracebacks or errors, so this one has
me stumped. Turning varients off immediately restores the prefs dialog,
but I'm wondering what could have changed to break this? Granted, the
list of voices is immensely larger with varients turned on and
navigating that list is painful sometimes but it isn't so large as to
cause the dialog not to open. There is another issue I want to discuess
but it's not related to this so I'll post a separate email. I'll be glad
to produce a debug log if needed.
