Re: [orca-list] network drivers

Hello,
Is this the issue you are having since upgrading some components or is this happening ever since you have installed linux?
Are you running linux on the laptop it-self or are you running it via virtualization software like virtualbox, qemu, vm ware and similar?
Which linux distribution are you running?
Which desktop enviromment do you run with orca?
How did you configure networking?
Do you have network connectivity when connecting other device to the same cable or are you dualbooting other operating system on the same machine where network access is working?
If you are dealing with wired connection I think you just have to plug the cable in.
To see status of your network connection you can start by clicking on the network manager applet in the top pannel or finding it via desktop overview, menus and similar.
Some handy commands you can execute from your favorite terminal emulator app to try to find out what's going on are
ip addr
retrieves ip addresses assigned to your network interfaces
ip route
retrieves routing table of your computer. From that you can see what is your gateway usefull for getting on to internet.
By using these commands you are checking whether you are connected to the local network. If you are definatelly connected then you can use utilities such as ping, traceroute and tracepath to diagnose basic networking issues however that is similar for any operating system you may run, so by moving further you can either try to run
ping 8.8.8.8
to see whether you do have some internet access or not.
Or alternativelly you can verify the internet access is working using another device or operating system.

Greetings

Peter
