I've had trouble with nautilus dropbox, and expect I'd still have issues on other desktops that do not use 
nautilus. 
Look on the dropbox website for the instructions that are given for headless installations. 
Use these instructions, but not the one long combined command, i.e. use a simple wget command, no -o option 
as shown, and authorize and link your 
computer to your ac count pasting urls and auth codes as needed. 
Then you can install the GUI, including nautilus dropbox if you are using gnome or Unity.
