Why on earth do you need desktop icons? I haven't used them for years. I enabled the Gnome add-on that puts
the places menu in the top bar and found I no longer needed to clutter up my system with the old desktop
interface.

According to Hadi Rezaee:
# By the way, do not forget to enable desktop icons in gnome-tweak-tools.
# it should be under desktop section
It's already enabled by default in Sonar. But definitely try it if for some reason you have no desktop icons
on your installed system.
