Re: [orca-list] Raspberry Pi breakthrough

Hello Halim,

Using speakup in the console with espeakup to connect speakup to espeak,
the audio stutters very, very badly and there is regularly a kernel oops
caused by VCHIQ passing the kernel a null pointer.

This may not happen with speech-dispatcher, but as speechd-up, the
speakup to sd connector has some very bad issues I have not opted to use it.

You might want to look at the sd_espeak configuration because in it's
default condition it has 'EspeakAudioChunkSize' set to about seven
minutes, which will seriously suck up badly needed resource on the tiny Pi.

I mean to write an sd module that uses the omx code and hence renders
tts on the GPU when using that also.

My experience since April last year when the snd-bcm2835 sound driver
changed and broke espeakup/espeak, is that the kernel crashes all the
time. This code fixes that.

Hi Mike,
Nice work but I can't confirm stuttering with espeak running on the pi.
Could you please describe your setup?
I am using espeak with speech-dispatcher
with audiooutputmodule set to libao.

Regards
Halim
