Hi,
You might need to add the applets manually to the panel. Maybe you
can put focus on top or bottom panel and 'alt+super+f10' to get the
menu. using 'alt+f10' works in Trisquel. An option should be 'add to
panel'. Selecting this should give you a search string entry; try a
string like 'network', for instance, and tab to the results. When you
find, for instance, Network Manager Applet, hit the 'add' button next
to it. Do this for your battery, clock, weather, sensors, whatever
applets you want on the panel(s).
