Re: [orca-list] Documentation for Using Gnome

Hello,
I have put gnome keyboard shortcuts into the google search and this is the page that displayed as the first result: https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/3.12/shell-keyboard-shortcuts.html.en By reading it I find it verry helpfull and comprehensive so please do read it if you are beginning to play with gnome and if you are curious. It points to other high quality documentation you can read directly in your web browser of choice on whatever device you prefer. Also gnome help is accessible to a large degree. There are webkit issues that make orca fail to render some parts however as you open gnome help with orca, activate the caret browsing by pressing F7 topic on keyboard commands is one of the first links you will be able to see. Please come on guys show a bit of your attitude toward using your enviromment of choice in a profesional life and try to master reading at least a bit from this documentation. Feel free to ask for more details on your favorite email list on this topic and if you ask appropriate questions you will for sure be able to receive helpfull answers. Gnome 3 is largelly accessible more than for a year there are a lot of users who are able to make some good use of it so if you are unsure get it for a test drive during the night or on weekends and you will notice you can use it day to day the same way you can use ubuntu 12.04 with unity 2D and even gnome 2.X you were using before.

Pressing the super key also known as windows key on your keyboard typing a few letters of your application or file name of your choice will initially show what you might be looking for and this appears to be current trend on other platforms as well so if everything else fails you will for sure be able to find your stuff this way.

Greetings

Peter

you think the gnome help would be accessible.

And the logical fallacy is that the Gnome help is inaccessible with
Orca. So there goes the primary source of documentation. Maybe Gnome
3.12 fixed this?

Hello everyone,

Since Gnome 3, everything has changed including how to find apps and
such. I understand that alt+F1 pulls up a payne of some sort and it
appears as though ctrl+alt+tab moves between them but I am having
trouble finding some consistency in the behavior of these paynes. It
is probably due to my lack of knowledge. Could someone either provide
some tips on navigating the Gnome desktop or tell me where would be a
good place on the web to read....such as a keyboard reference or
something similar?

Also, I would be interested in recommendations for applications to do
various daily tasks, such as email (I'm assuming Thunderbird), Twitter
clients, IM, etc. What is the status of Skype accessibility? I
remember it being a hastle in the past.

Thanks,
Robert
